A little astronomy

I've always been fascinated by the stars. When I was young, my father and I would go outside at night, point up at the sky, and I would ask him what each and every one was called.  This quickly propelled him into amateur astronomy. I find it fascinating to gaze into the sky and see the millions of stars.  You can't count them.

There are 8 planets in our solar system (poor Pluto) circling one sun.  The distance from the sun to Neptune on average is about 2.8 billion miles. The circumference of the earth is around 24,901.  So, walk around the earth around 112,445 times and you will reach that distance. That is huge! And that is only part of our solar system.  On top of that, there are over 200 billion stars in yours truly Milky Way galaxy. And there are millions of galaxies in our universe on top of that.

Now, many see those numbers and think, "Well, if the universe is that big, even if there is a God, why does it matter what we do? We are so tiny in this big universe. What is the big deal?" You're right. We are tiny.  In this big universe of which we are less than ants in comparison, there is a God who loves you. That love is not dependent on whether you love him back or what you do. I hope as you look at the stars tonight that you will remember a God who thinks about you.
